It’s within easy walking distance: about 10 minutes to the Blue Mosque, 20 minutes to the Grand Bazaar, and very close to the shoes wholesale streets, with plenty of eateries nearby. The rooms were fantastic — comfortable, clean, and well-maintained. The breakfast was really good, with plenty of options to start the day. The hotel is perfectly located near Sultanahmet, making it easy to visit Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and other major attractions. The only small downside is that it’s about an hour from the airport, but everything else was absolutely perfect. The hotel is very conveniently located in the old town tourist area with all the points of interests such as Aya Sophia and the Blue Mosque.\n\nAside from the comfortable rooms and location, what sets this place apart is the staff and service of the place! Even though I had arrived early from my flight, the staff went above and beyond to check me in early as soon as a room was available. I can't compliment Ur and others on staff for the helpful and friendly service they provided at every turn. However, all services are great, from the front desk to cleaning, and the restaurant on top floor with fantastic views. However, the traffic on the adjacent street is awful with frequent jams. The windows are very tight and it is quiet inside the rooms. There is a good breakfast included with the stay and this hotel participates in the TA's stopover program. Our overall stay was on the cusp of acceptable, until we checked out and left our luggage in the luggage room.\n\nThe issue started when we noticed that there was no tagging or ticket system for the luggage, so there was no way for the staff to verify that the people received the correct luggage. When we brought this up to the staff, Ahmet, he assured us that nobody would steal them. His exact words were ‘This is not India or Pakistan, people here are not thieves.’ Please note that we are from neither of those countries ethnically and we are Canadian by citizenship, but he had assumed so due to the colour of our skin. We brushed off his racist comments for the sake of being polite and entrusted our luggage with Ahmet who placed them in the luggage room.\n\nWhen we came to pick up our luggage, my carry-on that held my daily prescription medication was missing. I depend on this medication to stay alive, so our top priority was to locate the bag. Despite the staff’s incompetence, we were not angry as these mistakes can happen. We let the staff know, and they were immediately angry and hostile towards us. As I waited with the rest of our luggage, my mother went to watch the security footage with Tuna to find who may have taken the carry-on. However, Tuna was extremely unhelpful. Instead of trying to help us locate where the carry-on may have been misplaced, or accidentally taken by another hotel guest, he started investigating us, trying to prove that we were lying about the carry-on, saying that we never had it. However, the security footage proves that we had brought the carry-on down to the lobby, and after giving it to Ahmet and even helping him load the luggage into the room. Despite this, the footage showed that Ahmet forgot to bring my carry-on into the luggage room. Using this footage, they attempted to gaslight us into believing that it was our fault. As we tried to explain that we just wanted to find my life-saving medication, the staff berated my mother and called her stupid, a liar, and made further misogynistic and racist comments. Even through their verbal abuse, we remained cooperative and calm in order to find my medication. We requested to see footage of the lobby, but the security camera that would have filmed where my carry-on was conveniently broken. We also requested to see footage of the foyer to see if anyone left with my carry-on, however the staff refused to show this to us, and kicked us out of the hotel.\n\nWith that, we went to our next hotel, hoping that maybe the next day we would be able to go to a clinic where I could get my medication. Luckily my carry-on had a tag on it, and we were contacted by the family that had my luggage. They said that the hotel staff had mistakenly given it to them and loaded it into their car, and that they discovered i once they arrived at the airport. Thus, we were able to go to the airport and pick up my carry-on, and my medication was safely in there. The trip to the airport and back cost us a little over one hundred Canadian dollars.\n\nAlthough I was able to find my medication thanks to the kindness and responsibility of the people who it was mistakenly given to by the staff at the Grand Yavuz Hotel, I am extremely appalled by the disrespectful behaviour of the staff. I hope that the staff can one day understand how dire our situation was and have empathy for the next guests that go through something similar. I further implore them to integrate a ticketing system for guests keeping their luggage with them, as this mistake will inevitably occur in the future. Moreover, I highly recommend that Tuna and Ahmet are fired, and that the staff go through competency and customer service training, as their incompetence and general rudeness/bigotry is absolutely unacceptable. I wonder if they are relying on their deal with Turkish air to keep their rooms full. Decided to wait and was told that we could go have free breakfast even though we’d not checked in which was a lovely touch from them and really appreciated. When adding cost of visa plus taxi costs from new airport we would have been better flying straight on. The hotel is well located to see the mosques and Grand Bazaar but be aware that there is a very steep uphill walk through narrow and untidy, traffic filled street to get there. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was plentiful and varied including yoghurt, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, fruit, toast, cold meat and cheese. The dining room on the top floor was very quiet when we ate there about 6.30 pm. Food was ok but not great. The main issue is definitely the room and particularly the bedding. The pillows (one each) were very hard and both my husband and I woke with sore necks. The sheet and quilt cover do not fit the bed. They cannot be tucked in, just lie across the mattress protector. Our room was small with one side of bed close to the window. We could see an effort has been made to modernise the bathroom. It was 8 am, we were just off the plane, exhausted, and with jet lag. The warm, welcoming feeling came to me when I walked in, and the front desk staff helped us check in and find us a twin bedroom. He also told us to have breakfast in the restaurant before the room was ready. The hotel room booking comes with breakfast, but we didn't expect to have free breakfast before staying. I assume this is true Turkish hospitality. The restaurant with a cafe and bar on the top floor has a spectacular view, and I recommend you go up there for a meal or a drink. The price is shown in EUR, but we can choose to pay cash in Euros or they convert it to Turkish Lira when you want to pay with a credit card or Turkish Lira. We had Euros cash, so we paid with Euros. The housekeeping lady was very helpful, and made our room clean like check-in every day. The wifi was fast enough to watch HD streaming on a firestick 4K, but the speed went down when other guests were back in the evening, which is quite common. I had to use my mobile internet as a hotspot to do work meetings on my laptop. We will be back and stay here again. Good location? Maybe I would give it a 3 or 3.5 star. The location is great. But be aware there are many steep hills and cobblestones streets . I opted to travel from the airport via bus then tram and it was about a 10 minute walk (steeply) downhill from the nearest station. With only my backpacks, this was no problem but I could imagine with larger luggage, like a roller bag, it could be more challenging to get down and later back up the hill. Note: I left my roller bag with the luggage storage at the airport (reasonably priced, but cash only). Many of the must-see attractions were also within a 15 minute walk from the hotel.\n\nI arrived several hours before my assigned check in time, hoping to at least drop off my bags, but the staff was still able to get me in a room almost immediately. Everyone I interacted with at the hotel was very helpful and polite.\n\nThe bedroom and bathroom were both perfectly clean. The shower had great water pressure which was fantastic after a very long flight, although it had to be adjusted several times, since the pressure would raise or lower presumably as other rooms used their showers.\n\nI can confirm what others said that the room is small, but this was not a problem for me since I was staying alone, and in fact it felt rather cozy. With so many things to see nearby, I was barely in the room except to sleep. With the curtains closed and after a night of traveling followed by a day full of exploring, I fell asleep instantly.\n\nI can also confirm what was mentioned in some other reviews that the walls are thin. My room was by the elevator and I could hear entire conversations of people in the halls as they were coming and going.\n\nThe included breakfast was also very nice. Metro walk included a steep slope. Walls were thin, could hear the next room. TV only had local channels so we connected our HDMI cable but the TV had to be removed from the wall and toggled to connect. Only one pillow per bed. Had to toggle our keycard for a while before the electricity came on. WiFi was very slow sometimes. Shower pressure was bad and only one old rain shower head. Bathtub could be slippery. Only a bottle of blue soap given (not sure if it is shampoo or shower gel). Don't recall any toothbrushes given.\nOverall: no complaints given our free stay except for the WiFi. We stayed 4 nights in this hotel in August 2024 had 2 rooms side by side. This is my second time staying in this hotel. From the check in to check out, everything went really well. Front desk staff Mr. Okan and others were very courteous and able to help me to find a nice restaurant where we enjoyed delicious food. They also guided us how to reach to a specific place. Thank you again.\nRegarding the room, they are small however it is across the board (I think). Both the rooms were very clean, bed was very comfortable, bathroom was clean and since it’s hot, AC was nice also.\nThe hotel is closed to Grand Bazar, Blue Mosque and other attraction. One thing is that you have to walk up hill to reach the attraction.\nOverall, it’s great to stay with my family and we really enjoyed.
