{"success":true,"reviews":[{"id":1042199621,"rating":1,"title":"Do not stay!","text":"My mother and I stayed at the Grand Yavuz Hotel for the stopover program from Turkish Airlines. Our overall stay was on the cusp of acceptable, until we checked out and left our luggage in the luggage room.\n\nThe issue started when we noticed that there was no tagging or ticket system for the luggage, so there was no way for the staff to verify that the people received the correct luggage. When we brought this up to the staff, Ahmet, he assured us that nobody would steal them. His exact words were ‘This is not India or Pakistan, people here are not thieves.’ Please note that we are from neither of those countries ethnically and we are Canadian by citizenship, but he had assumed so due to the colour of our skin. We brushed off his racist comments for the sake of being polite and entrusted our luggage with Ahmet who placed them in the luggage room. \n\nWhen we came to pick up our luggage, my carry-on that held my daily prescription medication was missing. I depend on this medication to stay alive, so our top priority was to locate the bag. Despite the staff’s incompetence, we were not angry as these mistakes can happen. We let the staff know, and they were immediately angry and hostile towards us. As I waited with the rest of our luggage, my mother went to watch the security footage with Tuna to find who may have taken the carry-on. However, Tuna was extremely unhelpful. Instead of trying to help us locate where the carry-on may have been misplaced, or accidentally taken by another hotel guest, he started investigating us, trying to prove that we were lying about the carry-on, saying that we never had it. However, the security footage proves that we had brought the carry-on down to the lobby, and after giving it to Ahmet and even helping him load the luggage into the room. Despite this, the footage showed that Ahmet forgot to bring my carry-on into the luggage room. Using this footage, they attempted to gaslight us into believing that it was our fault. As we tried to explain that we just wanted to find my life-saving medication, the staff berated my mother and called her stupid, a liar, and made further misogynistic and racist comments. Even through their verbal abuse, we remained cooperative and calm in order to find my medication. We requested to see footage of the lobby, but the security camera that would have filmed where my carry-on was conveniently broken. We also requested to see footage of the foyer to see if anyone left with my carry-on, however the staff refused to show this to us, and kicked us out of the hotel.\n\nWith that, we went to our next hotel, hoping that maybe the next day we would be able to go to a clinic where I could get my medication. Luckily my carry-on had a tag on it, and we were contacted by the family that had my luggage. They said that the hotel staff had mistakenly given it to them and loaded it into their car, and that they discovered i once they arrived at the airport. Thus, we were able to go to the airport and pick up my carry-on, and my medication was safely in there. The trip to the airport and back cost us a little over one hundred Canadian dollars.\n\nAlthough I was able to find my medication thanks to the kindness and responsibility of the people who it was mistakenly given to by the staff at the Grand Yavuz Hotel, I am extremely appalled by the disrespectful behaviour of the staff. I hope that the staff can one day understand how dire our situation was and have empathy for the next guests that go through something similar. I further implore them to integrate a ticketing system for guests keeping their luggage with them, as this mistake will inevitably occur in the future. Moreover, I highly recommend that Tuna and Ahmet are fired, and that the staff go through competency and customer service training, as their incompetence and general rudeness/bigotry is absolutely unacceptable. We joined the beds and every day they separated them again when making the room \nWe claimed four times at the front desk, and never got a response. We asked for the manager and he never communicated \nWe were approached by an extra cover the second night after ordering it by phone. \nThe room is properly sized, but the floor was very dirty and as the beds ran, it was noticed that it was not cleaned long ago. \nBreakfast was of regular quality. \nStaff were not willing to help or collaborate. What a great atmosphere: Both the interior and the surroundings.\nAlso very convenient near the sights.\nAnd everywhere in the hotel smells really nice (luxury room spray)\n\nRoom was comfy and again felt very homely without feeling outdated. Very clean. The staff are very polite and helpful. The rooms and bathroom are clean but bds are very small. There is a ice restaurant with sea view and good prices on the roof. They also had a good breakfast.\nI didn’t like the neighborhood at all. But, if you want to be walking distance from the touristic areas but not in the square of the mosques then the entire area is not fabulous. Staff are extremely friendly, Amet was brilliant and helped us out a lot with a constant smile on his face, he’s a huge credit to the hotel.\nRoom was nice and having arrived around 7am we were told we could check into a twin room straight away or wait for the double. Decided to wait and was told that we could go have free breakfast even though we’d not checked in which was a lovely touch from them and really appreciated. The location was WONDERFUL, walking distance to the main historical sites. Also, there was a lively open air restaurant across the street and it was fun to pass it by and feel the energy of folks enjoying themselves. \n\nThe staff were friendly, particularly Umay, the guest hostess/conciergerie (I don't recall her specific title). Umay went out of her way to ensure the best services--and seemed to be everywhere at once just when you needed her (dining, lobby, room!) She even generously lent me her charger plug (the one I brought--and the one I bought there) could not accommodate the extra little \"bump\" on my ancient curlers' cord). Her manner was both kind and professional.\n\nThe complementary breakfast was beautifully laid out and generously supplied. Oh, that fresh honeycomb!\n\nI first had a regular room, which I liked because it overlooked the street and I could see all the walking, talking, eating \"action\" outside (windows completely seal any noise). Some people say the rooms were small, but I found it fine. I transferred to a more deluxe room with a balcony and a view of the water--which I actually liked less. It was elegant (and Umay stocked it with chocolates, wine, and goodies!), but the style was a bit too formal for my taste. The balcony and view were spectacular--but I (perhaps strangely?) preferred my little room overlooking the street.\n\nIt was the elevators that were too small!! When adding cost of visa plus taxi costs from new airport we would have been better flying straight on. The hotel is well located to see the mosques and Grand Bazaar but be aware that there is a very steep uphill walk through narrow and untidy, traffic filled street to get there. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was plentiful and varied including yoghurt, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, fruit, toast, cold meat and cheese. The dining room on the top floor was very quiet when we ate there about 6.30 pm. Food was ok but not great. The main issue is definitely the room and particularly the bedding. The pillows (one each) were very hard and both my husband and I woke with sore necks. The sheet and quilt cover do not fit the bed. They cannot be tucked in, just lie across the mattress protector. Our room was small with one side of bed close to the window. We could see an effort has been made to modernise the bathroom. The location is very central to the major attractions in Fatih and has countless restaurants nearby to choose from. The room was cozy, but the bed was comfortable, and so were the pillows. The water pressure and A/C were 10/10. Breakfast was basic but served the purpose, and their staff was amazing. Always ready to help. The room we received was quite small but very clean. The hotel is located in an area within walking distance to many sites and restaurants. The airlines lost our luggage and the hotel staff let me use their phone many times throughout the 2 days to call the airlines. The staff was great and also very friendly and helpful.
